TIE Blog 2

Reflecting back on the whole process, I think my students who are kindergarteners, really enjoyed the VoiceThread because they were able to talk into a microphone and hear their voices when I showed the final product to the class. The students were able to carry out the lesson not just in a one day lesson, but into the second day with talking about their illustration in the VoiceThread. Something that worked well was having the students work together to brainstorm different things that they could write and illustrate of what they are thankful for in their lives. Being able to illustrate their thought was of great help to the students because, it gave them a visual and allowed them to express themselves. I also modeled how they were to do the independent practice which was included as the visuals in the VoiceThread. I think it is so important to model expectations for students especially kindergarteners. I made sure to include rules when they did the product for the VoiceThread and told them this was an extra special project. Something I would do differently would be to have the students talk more about their picture during the recording of them talking on VoiceThread. I did have to take groups of kids to the library where it was not so distracting so they could focus on speaking about their sentence and illustration. I was able to show the class the finalized VoiceThread and they loved hearing their voices and seeing their own pictures they drew. Overall, I feel like this lesson and inclusion of VoiceThread went well and what was important to me was that the students benefited out of it and they did!

HOTS questions for peers:
1.) What changes could I make to my VoiceThread in order for it to be more interactive for my students?
2.) I did not put my voice in the VoiceThread for the directions, I just told the students orally while they were recording themselves. Do you think it would have been better to voice the directions on VoiceThread instead of just typing them on the first slide?
3.) Were there any other things I should have included for the students to do for the VoiceThread?

  1. Oh my goodness Courtney!!!! This is so cute! Their little voice are so heart warming. I love how you did this, and wish I could have done something like this with my class. This was such a cute idea, especially since Thanksgiving break was this past week. I absolutely loved this voice thread, it was cute. Great job!

  2. Courtney this is a really good lesson. I really love the lesson plan. You write really great plans. I need to get some help from you! :)
Also, you did amazing with a kindergarten class. To me this would be extremely hard but you did a great job and made it look easy. Awesome job! Congrats!

  3. I love this Courtney! I can relate to your questions about instruction because I did the same thing with my Pre-K class. I wondered the same question after I finished recording my students. I think telling each of the students individually is makes the instructions easier for them to understand.

  4. This is a great voice thread for your students. I wanted to view a voice thread of a lower grade level and was interested in seeing how the students handled it. I think that you did a good job by telling them what the expectations were before beginning. I think it helps the students understand everything and it opens things up for questions. I dont think it would hurt to add the audio of you giving the instructions. I love the student work! You did an amazing job.

  5. Wow! Your final VT turned out really great. I think that it would have been beneficial for you to also voice the directions for any auditory learners, especially for students at such a young age.

  6. You did a great job with your Voice Thread! I would have asked the student to read what they were thankful for and then why they were thankful for that. Just to add a little bit more.
